Thank You for 700!

The new, lightly updated logo.

You may have noticed I’ve started promoting my Substack lately and producing more content. It’s paying off: I broke 700 paid subscribers last night.

Thank you to everyone, old and new, who supports my work. I quite literally couldn’t do it without you. Paid subscriptions help me produce more reporting and analysis here. It also helps subsidize free content that I believe is in the public interest. It also helps me make a living.

I think I’ll publish one of these posts every 100 new paid subscribers until I crack 1,000. You can help by sharing Contra if you’re already subscribed or by becoming a subscriber if you’re not!

If you’re a new free subscriber, or a paid subscriber who hasn’t pick it up yet, I really recommend downloading the Substack app. It makes reading and listening to content a breeze.

Available for iOS and Android

I’ve been enjoying posting on the app exclusively for paid subscribers so far. I recently shared a rough draft of an article before publication for reader feedback—which was helpful. It functions a lot like a private Twitter feed.

If you download the app and join the chat, turn on notifications so you can consume new content as soon as it is released into the ether.

MLK cheated on his wife with 40 women, may have fathered a child with a mistress, was funded by communists, laughed as his friend raped a girl the same year King won the Nobel Peace Prize, and inaugurated “diversity, equity, and inclusion.” Happy MLK Day!

My piece on the rumble in the House also did pretty well.

Sending a Message
In an interview with NTD, Bob Good announced that he and a handful of other Republican holdouts would continue challenging Kevin McCarthy’s bid for House speaker. As of this writing, McCarthy has lost the vote for speaker nearly a dozen times. “Kevin McCarthy needs to drop out, he needs to do what’s best for the country, what’s best …

And my most recent story is also one of the darkest deep dives I’ve done. It’s about an online network of men accused of producing and sharing child pornography. Among the victims are their own underage male students.

I suffered through poring over federal court records so that you don’t have to.

Editor’s Note: This article contains sexually explicit material. People should see it so that they will take the following seriously, but discretion is advised. When Pearl City High School in Hawaii held its annual “songfest” in 2020, Alden Bunag, an outspoken LGBTQ rights advocate and teacher, took the stage for a…

I finally stopped being a freeloader and joined the paid side. Well worth it and I highly recommend for everyone else to do the same!
